Safety in a Vehicle

Each year thousands of people are injured in car accidents. Experts say that many of the injuries or deaths aren’t a result of the collision, rather they are from unsecured cargo inside the vehicle. At 55 miles per hour, a 20 pound object hits with 1,000 pounds of force. A simple cell phone at a speed of 55 miles per hour will hit with 30 pounds of force. Imagine a 30 lb dumbbell hitting an infant. What kind of damage can that do to a little skull.

Brent Miller, a police officer in Visalia, Calif., was driving with his wife and son in July 2000 in their Dodge Durango when they were hit head-on by a pickup. Miller and his wife were severely injured. His one-year-old son suffered a skull fracture—from a cell phone.

Take the extra time and secure ALL your cargo. With so many more SUV’s on the road today, you are at risk. Your cargo area is open and not protected. Your groceries will become missiles. A Cargo Net is a smart choice. Throw a net over all your cargo and secure it down tightly.
